Doug was drafted to the Army from Bluebell, UT 16 March 1944. Basic training was at Fort Douglas, UT. Here he trained as - medical NCO 673. He administered first aid to sick, injured & wounded, treated minor injuries such as cuts, blisters, contusions & lacerations, also treated patients for shock & stopped bleeding. In addition he attended to linen room in field hospital on New Caledonia. He broke his leg in a boxing match which delayed in on the action overseas. After his leg healed he was on the USS Colusa (APA – 74) headed to battle, when they received word the war had ended. He was honorably discharged 15 April 1946.
