When the soldiers were on the ship for the Philippine Islands, the voyage was not so pleasant as they were hit by a typhoon. It lasted for two days with winds up to 90 miles an hour. It was very frightening, and Kenneth thought it was the end for him. They landed in Japan where their job was to keep all the GIs occupied until they returned to the states. Kenneth's assignment was to be in charge of all the athletic equipment. It was not a demanding job. He had a small four by four office where he passed out the softballs, basketballs, horseshoes, etc. Kenneth became very good at playing horseshoes. He spent one year in Japan.
