In June 1942 at the age of 22, Grant W. Bleazard was drafted into the Army Air Force. He was first stationed in California where he worked as a mechanic on the airplanes. From there he was sent to Texas and then on to Florida where he served until his discharge in November 1945. While in California he was chauffer for General George Patton. He returned home on furlough in July 1943 and married his sweetheart, Lois. For recreation he played baseball with some of the others from the base in Orlando. It was here that he was scouted by the Chicago Cubs organization. But he was most proud of his service to his country.
