Second son born to Frank L. & Leona Bell Holgate, Arcadia, UT
I Joined the U.S. Coast Guard in May of 1966, taking basic training in Alameda, California. In Hawaii I was assigned to USCG Cutter “Kukui”, traveling through out the South Pacific & South East Asia, supplying & maintaining loran transmitting stations, which allowed aircraft & ships to receive accurate data for navigation purposes.
In Japan I was assigned to USCG Cutter “Ironwood” sailing to South Vietnam, here we set aids to navigation in the Mekong Delta to the DMZ. Then I went to Con Son Island, South Vietnam Loran Transmitting Station for a year. Here I was overseer of Vietnamese prisoners of war who helped maintain that station.
I married Sherrie Reay Jessen. Together we moved to Warren, Michigan for my remaining 18 months of duty, which was, St Clair Shores Michigan Life Boat Station.
I was honorably discharged in May of 1970.
After returning home we bought Sherrie’s Jessen grandparents home in Altonah, UT where we raised our daughters Melissa, Camille & Serena.
