When my orders came to report to Germany I was dispatched to Fort Dix New Jersey for four or five weeks for more training. After time completed there, I went to permanent duty assignment Bamberg, Germany. Where there was more training involved, in preparation for guarding Ammo Depots in France. From France my battalion “Old Ironside 1st of the 54th” was then dispatched to the Berlin Wall for security reasons. After that, I was sent to back to Bamberg. When I decided to change my M.O.S. I then was company clerk taking care of all the typing and paper work for our company, giving me more time with my wife who spent 16 months with me until Discharge date.
