Bill was drafted into the U.S. Army on December 12, 1976. He took basic training at Fort Lewis, Washington and took A.I.T. at Fort Gordon, Georgia. Bill attended Sentry Dog Handler School at Lackland Air force Base, Texas. On October 2, 1968 he flew to Seoul, Korea, where he served with the 260th Military Police Company Sentry Dog Platoon. He was a Sergeant E-5, and patrolled missile sites during the night. He also served as a Veterinary Technician the last 6 months of his Tour. He was in charge of feeding, shots, and Veterinary appointments for 20 dogs. He served in this area 13 months and was discharged and returned home November 1, 1969.
