I was called from Duchesne County and traveled by bus to Fort Douglas Salt Lake City for processing on 13 October 1953. I then traveled by train to Fort Ord, California. I spent sixteen weeks in basic training. After that I was stationed there for the remainder of my time. My MOS was 1745 Infantry. I also received 1812 MOS. I earned a Rifle Sharp Shooting Medal. I received the National Defense Medal for Good Conduct. I was discharged from active duty on 12 October 1955. I remained in the US Army Reserve until 26 October 1961.
